A symphony to excite the senses at Mercedes-Benz World
Having performed in some unusual places, from hot air balloons to ornamental gardens and stately homes, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra recently found itself at a very different kind of historic venue – Brooklands, the birthplace of motor racing and now home to Mercedes-Benz World.
The orchestra dazzled an audience of 300 ticketed guests with its performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, which formed the centre-piece of an evening designed to indulge the senses.
Enjoying champagne and canapés, guests including local Surrey residents and key business figures were also able to enjoy a beautiful performance of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter led by solo violinist Duncan Riddell. Before the performance, each lady attending was presented with a single yellow rose.
Following a delicious three-course dinner, served amongst a cello-shaped ice sculpture and gold painted human statues, guests were then treated to a unique cabaret of hits from musical theatre, performed by professional West-End singers.
Mercedes-Benz World Managing Director Peter O’Halloran, declared: “This memorable evening provided those of us fortunate enough to be present with an opportunity to hear different styles of music, taste wonderful food and see and touch beautiful cars, both old and new.”
Following the success of last summer’s Double Twelve: Brooklands Motoring Festival, and other sell-out concerts by Sir Elton John, Sugababes and McFly, Mercedes-Benz World is now firmly on the map as a venue for prestigious events.
It is also one of the UK’s most popular visitor attractions, a fact underlined in the latest Visitor Attractions survey by VisitBritain, the national tourism agency.
In the two years since its official opening, the UK’s largest automotive brand experience centre has now welcomed nearly 600,000 visitors, while the 70,000 motorists who have ventured onto its handling and off-road circuits have between them driven the equivalent of 32 times around the Earth!
Added Peter: “Mercedes-Benz World was never designed simply for car fans; we wanted the whole family to come along and experience the brand. The last two years have been an incredible two years during which we have hosted some 2,450 events in all. Now we’re working on some very exciting plans for 2009 and have some even better things in store.”
